Born on June 16, 1919, at Eglon, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Clarence W. and Lola (Evans) Beckman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas E. Shaffer, on Feb. 23, 1988; and by two brothers, Dale and Allen Beckman.
Mrs. Shaffer was retired from Potomac Valley Hospital as a collection manager for 20 years and was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyser.
She was also a member of the first hospice training class at Potomac Valley Hospital and served as a hospice volunteer for 10 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Dixie Moore and husband Robert of Deer Park, Md., and Cathy Shaffer of Keyser; three sisters, Helen Rotruck and husband Curtis of Keyser, Vonda Arnold of Deer Park and Patricia Fleming of Atwater, Ohio; two granddaughters, Jill Hammond and Lori Moore; special friends, Leona Liller and Ed VanMeter; a special niece, Pamela Arnold; several other nieces and nephews and her number one fan, Ian Burns.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyser, on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Linhart officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
In lieu of flowers, Gerry's request, in her own words, is "Pass on to others the many kindnesses you have shown to me."
