Paul was the son of Charles Raymond Goodsell and Harriet Emeline Kinney, he was born in Davis, West Virginia. His family moved to Maryland,Idaho and then to Bakersfield, California. He was a train engineer for the Santa Fe,(later the AT&SF railroad). He married Mildred Evelyn Salyer on September 28, 1928 in Bakersfield, California, they had two daughters Lois Jean and Alice Grace Goodsell. Paul died of a heart attack while vacationing in Mexico.
