Howard Wells Brainerd, 60 Olive Street, Upland, died yesterday afternoon at San Antonio Community Hospital, following a brief illness, at the age of 74 years.
A native of Stewartville, Minn., Mr. Brainerd had spent the greater part of his life in Iowa, where he devoted himself to stock and grain farming. He came to Upland a year ago. During his residence here, he was a member of the Men's Bible class of the Upland Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Brainerd are his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Howard Armstrong and Miss Charlotte Brainerd, of Upland; two sons, Clifford Brainerd, Upland; and Alfred Brainerd, Sioux City, Ia; two sisters, Mrs. A.M. Hawkins, Upland; and Mrs. E.T. Hagle, Sioux City; a brother N.H. Brainerd, Sioux City; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Brainerd will be held tomorrow, 3:30 p.m. at the Upland chapel of J.B. Draper and Company, First Avenue and Ninth Street. The Rev. Paul Huebner of the Upland Methodist Church will officiate and the remains will be cremated in Pomona.
