Emery A. Eickhoff, age 98, of Wykoff, Minn., died Wednesday morning, June 8, 2011, at the Spring Valley Care Center.

Emery was born August 18, 1912, in Fountain Township, Fillmore Co., the son of William and Sophie (Bickenese) Eickhoff. He was educated at the Winslow Country School, St. John Parochial School and graduated from Wykoff High School in 1931. He married Almeda Kohlmeyer October 1, 1936, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff. The couple made their home and farmed on the Eickhoff family farm until their retirement in 1977. In 1960 Eugene and Rita Kramer began working with the couple and today their sons, Ross and Rory Kramer continue to live on and work the farm. The couple moved to Wykoff in 1995 and then to the Spring Valley Care Center and Assisted Living in January 2008.

Emery and Almeda traveled extensively with his brother, Emil and wife, Irene. Travels included trips to all 50 states and 65 countries. He was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wykoff where he served many years as elder, trustee, on building committees and was a member of the choir. He was very active in Farm Bureau at both the local and state levels. He was a member of the Wykoff Lions Club and the Wykoff Creamery Board. He was instrumental in the founding of the Wykoff Area Historical Society, the renovation of Ed's Museum and the Wykoff Jail B & B. He worked on moving and building the Fillmore Co. Museum in Fountain, served on the board of the Southeast Minnesota Agency on Aging, worked on building committees for the renovations and additions to the Wykoff Public School and the expansion of the Wykoff Community Center. He was a strong believer in giving back to the community and spent his 30 years of retirement serving and working to improve and maintain our local communities.

The couple did not have children of their own but adopted the Kramer family and their many nieces and nephews as their own. He is survived by his wife, Almeda; one brother, Everett (Beatrice) Eickhoff of Fountain; Rita Kramer Joerg of Preston and her children, Kim of Rochester, Ross and Rory of Fountain and Maureen, Todd, Josh, Jennifer and Jonathan all of the metro area; and many nieces and nephews.
