Funeral services for Elizabeth Newton, 96, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the W.W. Rix Chapel with the Rev. Aaron Denson of Bethany Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview. Mrs. Newton died March 12, 2011, at Vista Care. She was born Aug. 23, 1914, in Anson, Texas, to A.L. and Amanda Ashmore Hollums. She Married Ernest W. Newton on Aug. 23, 1933, in Lockney, and he predeceased her Aug. 6, 1979. Mrs. Newton was a homemaker and nurse's aid. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church and had been a strong and faithful lady to her family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Cummings of Monett, MO, and Jo Ann Linch and husband Floyd of Lubbock; son-in-law, Eugene Byrd and wife Glenda of Stanton, TX; one brother, John Hollums of Richland Hills, TX; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lajuana Byrd; five brothers; and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in her honor to Vista Care.
