Margaret was the daughter of Brite Pruitt and Elizabeth Sebold. She came to Indiana from Kentucky with her parents and siblings and they settled in Gregg Township, Morgan County in 1830.
She first married William Bradley, the son of Jesse Bradley and Lucretia Caviness on September 7, 1837 in Morgan County. To this union was born one son, Amos Sebolt Bradley.
After William's death in 1838, she married secondly John Aquila Whitaker on June 11, 1840 in Morgan County. To this union seven children were born; Moses Taylor, Nathan Graftin, Elizabeth Juliet, Eli Swinford, Evan Jacob, John Ocana and Mary Anabel . Her husband died on July 23, 1863 in Sigel, Shelby Co., IL.
Margaret's sister, Catherine H. Pruitt, was married to George W. Shake in 1837. However, Catherine died on January 22, 1874 and subsequently Margaret and George W. Shake were married.
