Noble enlisted on September 23, 1861 and served in Company A, 3rd Regiment of the Potomac Home Brigade. He died of apparent heat exhaustion on August 5, 1864 near Harper's Ferry.

Noble was married to Jane Warnick, daughter of Joseph Warnick and Elizabeth Fazenbaker. Starting in 1870 she started receiving a veterans widows pension. She owned land along Savage River in Garrett Co Maryland and presumptively died prior to 1882 when her children sold interest in the land. Jane's burial location is unknown.

Jane and Noble had a son, Joseph Broadwater, born August 8, 1838 , he enlisted in the 4th West Virginia Infantry on July 20, 1861. He died in Memphis, Tennessee on July 5, 1863.
