Lucille E. Peterson was born on June 2, 1924, in Wetonka, SD, to Peter and Etna (Backous) Peterson.
On March 16, 1947, Lucille married Gerrit Van Hunnik in Bristol, SD. Gerrit served as a pastor for parishes in Osnabrock, Milton, Fargo, Grand Forks, and Oakes, ND, and Windom and Vining, MN. They also lived in Omaha, NE, where Gerrit directed the Outdoors Ministry.
Lucille and Gerrit eventually settled in Moorhead where he was a pastor at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Gerrit died on October 28, 2006, and Lucille continued to make her home in Moorhead.
Lucille was a very active volunteer who gave her time and energy to many organizations in the community including the MeritCare Foundation and Gift Services, the Eventide Gift Shop, Lamp Ministries, the Hjemkomst Center, Habitat for Humanity, Oak Grove Lutheran School and Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. She also served as an Ombudsman for area nursing homes.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter and several siblings.
Burial: Bristol Cemetery, Bristol, SD.
