Surprise Valley residents were shocked and saddened when they heard the news of the sudden passing Tuesday morning in San Francisco of Stephen Slinkard.

Stephen Allen Slinkard was born near the town of Tulare in Tulare county, California, September 8, 1893. When still a small lad his family, Mr. and Mrs. Nute Slinkars, with several brothers and sisters moved to Surprise Valley, settling neat the town of Eageville. About 1915 Steve was married to Mary Connelly and to this union (illegible) boys were born, two of whom died in infancy. Mary passed away after the birth of Tommy.

The boys are Warren J., Ashley, Steven, Marian and Tommy.

In 1940 Steve and Nina Hanks Dorton were married and two little girls, Stephanie and Nila, were born to them.

In 1951, while in the empoy of the White Pine Lumber company, Steve was injured. He was being treated in a hospital in San Francisco as the result of this injury and was staying with Aileen and Harold Warren, sister and brother-in-law of his, when he passed away.

He spent nearly his lifetime living in and around Eagleville, moving to Cedarville sometime on the 1940's.
