Cremation rites have been held for Evelyn Joyce Pennington, 69, of Coos Bay, under the direction of Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary.
Mrs. Pennington was born Feb. 21, 1929, to Vaude C. and Della M. (James) Sutherland in Eugene. She died Feb. 4, 1999 in Coos Bay.
Mrs. Pennington moved to the Bay Area in the early 1940s where she has since lived.
Evelyn was a self-employed log truck driver for 20 years from 1951 to 1971. On Oct. 23, 1971, she married Jesse C. "Joe" Pennington in Kelso, Wash.
She was a talented homemaker and a loving wife. She was an artist with knitting needles and crocher hooks and had created many beautiful afghans, doilies, tablecloths and bedspreads. She also enjoyed walking on the beaches in the rain. Everyone that knew her loved her and she loved everyone.
Mrs. Pennington is survived by her husband, Jesse C. "Joe" Pennington of Coos Bay; stepson, Richard Pennington of North Bend, Stuart Pennington of Chico Hills, Calif., and Patrick M. Pennington of Hibbing, Minn.; stepdaughter, Rita Hasty of Coos bay; and seven grandchildren with one on the way and three great-grandchildren.
