NORTH OGDEN- Clayton Philip Beal returned to his Heavenly Father and many loved ones at the age of 76, on October 4, 2007. He died peacefully in his sleep at home.

Clayton Philip Beal was born June 3, 1931 in Tacoma, Washington to Helen Katherine Schultz and Philip Kemper Beal.

His early years were spent at Dash Point and Tacoma Washington. As a young boy, Clayton spent many hours in his rowboat on Puget Sound fishing to help his family with food and money. At the age of twelve he was invited by a friend to go on a hike with his Latter Day Saint Scout Troop. He went to many scouting activities until eventually he was converted to the Church at age 14.

Clayton married Sharron Rae Evans in the Logan LDS Temple on September 17, 1959.

He was active in scouting all his life. He was an Eagle Scout and later became a professional scout for 11 years. He was also a cub master for 11 years. Later he received the Silver Beaver Award. He had a great appreciation for the outdoors.

Clayton graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington. Later Clayton received his B.S. from Brigham Young University in Youth Leadership.

He served a full time mission in the Northern States Mission, and was a missionary in the Seattle Stake Mission, the BYU Stake Mission, and the Ogden North Stake Mission. He became a High Priest and served in many church positions.

Clayton served 3 years in the army in Africa during the Korean War. While in Ethiopia, he introduced the game of marbles to the children in one of the villages. The children enjoyed this game so much that Clayton had to send for more marbles. A year or so ago we heard from a recent visitor to Ethiopia that the children in this area were still playing marbles.

He dedicated his life to helping others. Clayton was the Director of the United Way of Northern Utah for 29 years. He was an active member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club.

Clayton was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, a fine example and admired by many.

He is survived by his wife, Sharron (Sally) Rae Evans Beal, his children, Mary Cathryn (Robert) Jones, John Clayton (Nancy) Beal, Leah Rae (Greg) Schaffer, Jared Evans (Amy) Beal, and Susan Sharron Beal. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and his brother, David James Beal, Toledo, WA.

He was preceded in death by his twin daughters Sariah and Ruth and his parents Philip Kemper Beal and Helen Katherine Schultz.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 8, 2007 at the North Ogden 3rd Ward Chapel, 386 East Elberta Drive, North Ogden.

Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their help and support. Special thanks to Legacy Health Care and Hospice.
