Woodford R. “Chappy” Chapman, 80, Challis, passed away December 28, 2002 at his home in Challis.

He was born October 15, 1922 in Gloucester, Virginia to Walter and Gertrude Fugman Chapman.

He attended Pittsfield High School, graduating in 1940. He retired to Idaho in 1988. He served in the Army as a Staff Sergeant in 1940 to 1945. He served at Pearl Harbor and received the American Descented Service Medal, the EAME Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Stars.

He married Mary Giacoletto March 3, 1945 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He worked for the Pittsfield Fire Department from 1952 through 1969. He also owned Westside Cabinet Business, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Anglican Fellowship of the Episcopal Church and the Masons. He enjoyed carpentry and gardening.

Services were held Thursday, January 2 at the St. Louise Catholic Church in Challis.

Survivors include his wife Mary of Challis; son James and Anna Chapman, Pittsfield, MA, daughter Joann and Muzzie Braun, Clayton; six grandsons and one granddaughter: Greg and Scott Chapman, Pittsfield, MA; Cody, Willie, Gary and Micky Braun, Texas; Rebecca Messer, Pawtucket, RI; three great-grandchildren; five sisters and four brothers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Challis Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 998, Challis, Idaho 83226.
