Marlys G. Gilbertson, 75, Kathryn, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Lisbon Area Health Services, Lisbon, N.D.

Marlys Hoff was born April 29, 1934, at rural Regent, N.D., the daughter of Selmer and Inga (Igard) Hoff. She grew up and attended school in Regent and Eastedge, N.D., and graduated from Enderlin High School, Enderlin, N.D. She married Wesley Gilbertson on June 30, 1953, in Kathryn. They lived in Eastedge where they operated a grocery store. They moved to Kathryn where they farmed. She worked for Community Action in Valley City, N.D., and had a variety of other jobs. He died in 1987. She moved to Valley City to care for her mother until her death in 1995. She then returned to Kathryn. She attended Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn.

She is survived by two daughters, Laurel (Burle) Johnson, Enderlin, and Nadine Sanford, Lisbon; a son, Jim, Kathryn; a sister, Eileen Belakion, Scranton, N.D., six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Scott; her parents; two brothers, Leland and Bud; and a daughter-in-law, Jenny.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn, with the Rev. Bradley Edin officiating.
