Herman Nass 1866-1953

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, for Herman Nass, 86 year old resident of Copley Township, who passed away Monday evening at the Clearwater County Memorial Hospital. The services will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church south of Bagley, with the Rev. Karl Stromming officiating. Burial arrangements are in charge of the Cease Funeral Home.
Herman Nass was born October 29, 1866, at Litchfield, Minnesota, and was 86 years, five months and 22 days of age at the time of death. He spent his early childhood at Hutchinson, Minnesota.
He was united in marriage to Emmie Rotzien on July 9, 1889. Mr. and Mrs. Nass came to Clearwater County in the year 1909 and established a homestead in Minerva Township. Soon after they moved to mallard where they spent three years and, during this period, they had charge of the postoffice in the former county village.
They then moved to the present home in Copley Township where they have made their home since. Mr. and Mrs. celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last summer.
Before coming to Clearwater County they had spent three years at Hutchinson and 17 years at Willmar, Minnesota. Since that time they had lived in this county and have made their homes in Rice and Minerva Townships.
Preceding Mr. Nass in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters; one sister is buried at sea.
He is survived by his wife, five daughters and three sons. They are: Mrs. Kohn Hanson (Ellen), Mrs. Pete Norley, (Lula), Mrs. Emet Norley (Louisa), Mrs. Clarence Fultz (Mabel) and Mason Nass, all of Bagley. Also Harold of International Falls and Ernest of Flushing, Michigan. He is also survived by one sister of Hutchinson, Minnesota, 35 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers at the last rites will be five of his grandsons, Louis Fultz Jr., of International Falls, Amos Fultz, Morris Hanson and Arthur Norley, all of Bagley and one great grandson, Harvey Dobson of Shevlin.
Burial will be made in the Bagley Cemetery.
