William M. Ralston was born August 4, 1888, in Jackson County, the son of William and Janie Ralston. His siblings include Luke, of Rockwood, and Noah, of Murphysboro. Four sisters (Bertha E., Mary, Martha and Emeline) and two brothers (George and Charles E.) preceded him in death. Another brother, Arthur L. (b. 1886), is unaccounted for.

Mr. Ralston married Bertha Mifflin Mansker on August 6, 1943 in Murphysboro. He left one son, Russell, of California and several stepchildren: Mike Pierce of Ava; Mrs. Frances Larison of South Gate, CA; Mrs. Mabel Weatherford of Gorham; and Mrs. Christina Massey of St. Louis. [The 1940 U.S. Census shows William Ralston married to Laura Ralston.]

Mr. Ralston was a retired section worker for the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church.

He died at the age of 75 after a long illness. His funeral was held at the Wilson Funeral Home in Ava. Rev. William Stacey officiated.
