Born Nov. 17, 1918, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Cecil Murray and Eva Sisk Murray. He retired from the Army Reserves and also retired from Barrett Construction Company in Waco as a carpenter, after 15 years. Mr. Murray was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Shelby, Shelby Masonic Lodge No. 202, Cherryville Legion Post No. 100, the Veterans Council of Shelby and the Disabled American Veterans of Shelby. He was also an honorary member of the Cherryville Masonic Lodge No. 505 in Cherryville. He served in the Army during World War II and was a retired Sergeant First Class.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hamrick Murray of the home; a sister, Martha Jane Lowrance of Charlotte; and also by a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with full Masonic rites will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. before the service at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home in Cherryville and at other times at the home of a niece, Louise Keller, 1244 Jim Elliott Road, Shelby.
