US Congressman. A prominent Georgia lawyer and planter, he during the Civil War served during the Civil War as Captain and commadner of Company I, 4th Georgia Cavalry in the Confederate Army. He was twice elected as a Democrat to represent Georgia's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, serving first from March 4, 1879 to March 3, 1881, then from March 4, 1883 to March 3, 1885.
