The family remained here, welcoming another daughter, Gertrude (1887-1911), until Herman Boing purchased a nearby farm with about 120 acres. This farm was recognized as an Indiana Homestead Farm and remained in the Bessler family until it was sold in 2011.
Catherina married Joseph Suttman, a local farmer, on 4 Oct 1905 in Franklin County, Indiana. They had four children: Ida (1908-2005), Edna (1910-2000), Francis (1915-1958) and Ralph (1916-1991). They may have lived on the Suttman farm for a short time, but moved to Glendale,Springfield Township,Hamilton County, Ohio around 1910 where Joseph found work as a janitor for a Catholic School.
Sad to say that there were many family tragedies which occurred in Catherina's family in the early years of her marriage. She was pregnant with her second daughter when both her parents died within a week of each other in March 1910 of pneumonia. Then the following January, her sister Gertie, who had suffered from diabetes for many years, was visiting with her when she fell into a diabetic coma and died. So within less than three years, Catherina had given birth to two children and lost her entire family: both her parents and her only natural sister.
Although she gave birth to two more beautiful children, Catherina was unable to pull herself from the presumed depression into which she fell. Tragically, the young wife and mother died in 1918 from self-inflicted lye poisoning. She was 34.
