James Isaac Wheeler, Jr., 84, of Pennville, died at 7:55 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 19, 2008.

Born in Ossian on Sept. 4, 1923, to James Isaac Wheeler, Sr. and Bernice (Kelly) Wheeler, he married Wilma J. Freed Wheeler of Pennville, who survives him, on June 10, 1945, in Geneva.

He graduated from Geneva High School in 1940 and attended Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman First Class during World War II. He was a lifelong woodworker, working for several years at Dunbar Furniture in Berne. He also worked at Corning Glass in Bluffton and was a minister in Crawfordsville.

Other surviving relatives include two sons, Daniel (Cynthia) Wheeler of Pennville, John Wheeler of Geneva; three daughters, Mary Hawk of Hartford City Miriam (Michael) Southerland of Montpelier Deborah (Patrick) LeMaster of Bryant; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was a son James Isaac Wheeler III.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes Walker Chapel in Montpelier. Calling is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Gardens of memory in Muncie.

Preferred memorials are Agape Respite Care in Berne.
