Mr. James J. Smith, 83, of Hanson, Kentucky passed away at 2:00 A.M., Saturday, March 21, 2009, at his residence.
He was born April 2, 1925, in Hopkins County, KY to the late James Claude Smith and Katie Howard Smith.
Mr. Smith was a World War II Navy Veteran who served in Pearl Harbor and the Philippines. He was a hard worker and really enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dora Ellen Smith of Hanson; two sons, Perry (Janice) Smith of Hanson, KY and Richard (Janie) Smith of Harrisburg, PA; one sister, Roxie Fridy of Louisville, KY; two grandchildren, Brian Smith of Dallas, TX and Ashley Smith of Harrisburg, PA; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Finley officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Garden in Madisonville.
Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
