Their move to Tuscola County may have been prompted by the 1853 death of James's father Amos Andrews who, along with his sons David H. Andrews and Amos Andrews, was a pioneer in Indianfields Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.
James and Eliza lived on the Ellington Township farm that James had cleared in the mid-1850s and which was eventually considered one of the best orchards in Tuscola County.
