He grew up in Roanoke. He was an artist and was a junior in the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. David was also an avid skateboard enthusiast. He built the largest skateboard half-pipe in Southwest Virginia and for five years he shared this with 300 other skateboarders at his home. David attended Roanoke City Schools, Patrick Henry High School, William Fleming Magnet School for the Arts and Virginia Western Community College. He was a participant in the Festival in the Park Art Exhibit for the past two years.
David's survivors include his parents; brothers, Kenneth (Joyce) Roller, Richmond; Thomas (Meredith) Roller, Lynchburg; Paul Roller, Winston-Salem, N.C.; sister, Miriam (Jack) Molver, Seattle, Washington; grandfather, Paul I. Roller, Timberville, Va.; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in David's memory to establish an arts scholarship through the Roanoke City Schools. Checks should be made payable to the Roanoke Educational Assistance Foundation, 40 Douglas Avenue, Roanoke, Va. The family will meet with friends on Saturday, August 29 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30 at the Central Church of the Brethren, Roanoke. Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
