Alger LaVerne Ness, 86, of Mondovi died Sunday, March 3, 2013.

He was born in the family farmhouse on April 10, 1926 son of Bennie and Mabel (Ede). Alger married Elda Johnson on June 29, 1952 at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI.

Alger farmed on the family farm until 1989 where Todd continues to farm today. In 1999 they built and moved into a new home in Mondovi. Alger was baptized and confirmed in Thompson Valley Lutheran Church. He was on the Mondovi Town Board for 18 years and served on the Board of Directors for the local creamery as well as being the custodian for the Thompson Valley Church and Cemetery. Alger loved his family, farming and John Deere tractors.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elda; children and grandchildren, Jane (the late Jim) Davis of Eden Prairie, MN, Connie (John) Blazek, Erik and Alison Blazek of Eau Claire, WI, Jennifer (Tom) Schroer, Andrew and Anthony Schroer of Eden Prairie, MN, Todd (Lori) Ness, Emily, Maddie and Ben Ness of Mondovi, WI; and foster son, Ken (Linda) Melvin, Dustin and Jessica Melvin of Holmen, WI.

Services will be held at Central Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held Friday, March 8 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi. Friends and family may also call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
