Parents: Harry Neal Boone & Gladys Winifred Roughton.

She spent her early years in Washington but moved to California before age ten. She graduated from Pomona High School in 1939. She trained to become a beautician but chose to spend her entire life as a wife and mother.

She married her high school sweetheart, Walter C. Heffner in 1942. They spent three years in Texas where Walter served as a glider pilot instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

They returned to Pomona, California, and raised their family. In 1965 they moved to Morro Bay, California, and resided there until 2007 when they moved to Roseburg. They became residents of Linus Oakes Retirement Community.

La Verne is survived by her sons, David (Cheryl) of Roseburg, Oregon; Richard (Kaaren) of Granbury, Texas, and Kevin (Kathleen) of Paso Robles, California. She had eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

La Verne was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Janis Lynn; her brother, Jack and her husband, Walter.

La Verne will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her love of family and her enjoyment of the beauty of nature.

Wilson's Chapel of the Roses is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no service at the request of the family. Entombment will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
