Thomas F. Burge joined the Union Army in Louisville, KY June 19, 1861 for a period of 3 years. He entered Co. B, 2nd Regiment of the Kentucky Infantry Volunteers commanded by Captain George Austin at the age of 22 years, 9 months, and 13 days. According to the records of his physical description, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, fair complexion, light hair and blue eyes. He was captured by Rebels at Chickamauga GA Sept. 20th and later escaped, believed the date was Oct. 14, 1863. Returned to duty May 23, 1864 and discharged June 15, 1864.

Thomas Burge got shot December 1903 by a man by the name of Wise as a result of a gambling card game and died about three days later.
