Independence, MO — James W. Mansfield 71, of Independence, Missouri passed away June 7, 2011.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Bethel Baptist Church, Independence. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church.

James was born May 27, 1940 in Huntingdale, Missouri to Wilbur and Thelma (Miller) Mansfield. He served his country proudly and is a veteran of the US Army. He married Selma Partch on October 29, 1960 and they made their home in the Independence area. James was employed by the US Postal Service and retired in 1991 after 32 years of service. He then was a driver for Alissa'a Flowers for another 15 years. He loved music and was an excellent drummer. He also loved poetry, camping, fishing and was a big supporter of the Boy Scouts of America where and was a member of the Mic-O-Say tribe as well as the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.

James is preceded in death by his parents and a brother; C. Wayne Mansfield.

James is survived by his wife of 50 Years, Selma of the home. 3 Children; Dawn Anderson and her husband Eric of Independence, Mo. William Mansfield and his wife Teri of Independence, Mo. Lisa Hunsel of Independence, Mo. Brother; Darrell Mansfield and his wife Gail of Independence, Mo. 13 Grandchildren and 14 Great-grandchildren.
