YAKIMA - Jennie Elizabeth (Shaw) Schlect was born in Pittsburg, PA on December 9, 1912 to William and Ida Shaw.

She moved to Yakima in 1917 when the family homesteaded on Englewood Heights. She attended Cowiche Canyon Grade School, Castlevale Junior High and Yakima High School. As a teen she worked for many neighbors and for several warehouses, during WW2, where she became a very skilled box maker.
