Chester was a pensioned Sergeant in the War of 1812 (Capt. Thomas Delano's Company, 23d U.S. Infantry). In 1821 Chester was 1st Lt. of the 16th Regt of Artillery for Cortland County, NY. He was a Mason. He was originally buried in Lyme, Huron Co., Ohio, but his remains were later reinterred in the Spring Grove Cemetery (Row 11) in Medina Co., Ohio, with his wife.
