C. L. HOTCHKISS DIES SUDDENLY
Funeral Rites to Be at 2:30 O'Clock on Saturday Afternoon
Clarence L. Hotchkiss, 45 [sic, 43], died suddenly at his home, 646 First street southeast, at 2 o'clock Friday morning [28 Jun 1940] following a brief illness. He had been a resident of Mason City for the past 28 years.
Mr. Hotchkiss was born July 4, 1895 [sic, 1896], at South English, Iowa. He was a World war veteran, a member of the American Legion and Company F of the national guard. He operated Tiny's Inn, 213 South Federal avenue.
Surviving Mr. Hotchkiss are his wife and one daughter, Jacquelyn, at home, his mother, Mrs. Hattie Hotchkiss, Saint Croix Falls, Wis., three brothers, James H. Hotchkiss, South English, Wilford [sic, Wolfred] N. Hotchkiss, La Crosse, Wis., and Fred W. Hotchkiss, Clear Lake, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Greenlee, Saint Croix Falls, Wis., and Mrs. F. L. Connelly, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at Memorial chapel of the Major funeral home at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with the Rev. J. Lee Lewis, pastor of the First Baptist church, in charge. Burial will be at Elmwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Major funeral home.

Military Rites Held by Company F Members at Elmwood Cemetery
Funeral services for Clarence L. Hotchkiss, 43, who died suddenly at his home, 646 First street southeast, Friday following a brief illness, were held at the Memorial chapel of the Major funeral home Saturday afternoon, with the Rev. J. Lee Lewis, pastor of the First Baptist church, in charge.
Mrs. Roger Krik sang "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Roy Servison accompanied at the organ. In charge of flowers wee Mrs. Nettie Jackson and Mrs. Stella Jackson.

Company F of the 133rd infantry of the Iowa National Guard was in charge of the military service in Elmwood cemetery.
Pallbearers were Capt. Fredrick B. Shaffer, Sergt. Lloyd A. Anderson, Sergt. Emmery Anderson, Serg. William A. Romoser, Corp. Edward Hert, Corp. John Hert, Private Lyle Crooks and Private Russell Fergeson.
The firing squad consisted of Sergt. William Martin, Corp. William Cookman, Corp. Merrill Olsen, Corp. Darrell Wilson, Corp. Howard Franzen, Private First Class Al Cornick and Lieut. C. E. Van Horn in charge of the squad.
Lieut. Phil W. Thrtile was in charge of the escort. Henry Haun, bugler, sounded "taps."
