William Horace Hooper was an early California pioneer and gold miner, he came to Amador, California, during the Gold Rush with his father John Albert Hooper Sr. Together William and his father worked the Hooper Quartz Mine until William's early death at age 44 years old. William's father, John Albert Hooper Sr., went on to become an important part of early San Francisco history, involved in mining, lumber, shipping, banking and real estate. William Horace Hooper Sr. is buried with his father and brothers in the Hooper Monument at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Colma, San Mateo, California.
