James Hugh and Gertrude H. Kemble of Kettleman City, California, were notified by the war department that their son, James M. Kemble, was killed in an airplane crash on January 20, 1945, while on his way overseas. He was on a flight as a turret gunner on a B24 Liberator bomber. The crew on his plane were the outstanding graduates of their class.
The Army Air Corps corporal went into the service in April, 1943, and trained in Texas, Florida and Tucson, Arizona. He was graduated from Avenal High School in 1942 and attended Fresno State College. His brother, Seaman First Thomas Kearney Kemble, was on an aircraft carrier somewhere in the Pacific at the time.
