He was born May 23, 1925, in Switzerland County, the son of Maurice Austin and Millicent Mary Clements Briggs. He was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1943 graduate of Vevay High School. He attended Franklin College. He served in the Army from Oct. 4, 1943, to March 13, 1946, serving in Headquarters 1103rd Army Air Forces Base Unit, as an airplane and engine mechanic during World War II. He was a dairy farmer all of his life and also raised tobacco and hay. He enjoyed carpentry and helped build custom homes with Herschel Lowe for several years. He was raised in the Long Run Baptist Church near Moorefield and attended Fairview United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading, baseball, college basketball and football.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Pavy Briggs, whom he married June 6, 1964; one son, Kendrick Fay Briggs Jr. of Vevay; one sister, Shirley Hart of Pleasant; one brother, Robert Briggs of Versailles; one grandson; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service and burial was at Vevay Cemetery.
