EARL GURWELL
Earl Gurwell, 85, of Grinnell, died of cancer on Friday, June 21 at the Grinnell General Hospital.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Chariton Cemetery, with Pastor Paul Olson presiding. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
Earl was a longtime resident of Chariton. He moved to Phoenix, Ariz. in 1974 and to Grinnell in 1986. He was employed by the city of Chariton for 40 years, and was shop foreman when he retired.
He was a member of the Chariton Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years and was a member of the Chariton Masonic Lodge No. 63 AF & Am.
He is survived by his wife, Iva M. Gurwell of Grinnell; three brothers, Clair Gurwell of Taft, Calif., Floyd Gurwell of Topeka, Kan., and Howard Gurwell of Chariton; and one sister, Elizabeth Kendrick of Des Moines.
