Maxie Elizabeth "Kathy" Tucker Chunn, born November 5, 1927 in Houston, Texas to Maxie and Phillip Norvin Tucker. Maxie attended and received her Associates Degree in Nursing from the University of Houston. She was employed by Hermann Hospital when she met her husband, Dr. Samuel Preston Chunn. Also known as "Kathy", she continued her education at Angelo State University where she received her B.S.N. She worked as an R.N. in various positions and subsequently was the Director of Nursing for the Bronte Nursing Center.
Kathy married Sam in 1950; they were married for nearly 40 years. Sam, who was a radiologist in San Angelo, passed away in 1990 and was the love of her life.
Kathy was a long-time resident of San Angelo, Texas since 1973. She had three siblings. Her sister Virginia Stark lives in St. Joseph, Michigan. Kathy was predeceased by her sister Norma Gravell and brother Phillip Tucker, both of Houston, Texas.
She is survived by her three sons, Eric R. Chunn of San Angelo, married to Reba Chunn, Kurt Chunn of Waco, married to Debra Chunn, and Jeff Chun, also of San Angelo. She has one daughter, Valerie Keener of Dallas, Texas, married to Phillip Keener. She has one granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Keener Gonzalez of Springfield, Oregon, married to Nicholas Gonzalez. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathy attended church at Southgate Church of Christ. She had many wonderful friends and counted them as some of her greatest blessings in life. She delighted in her family, her Lord, and loved hearing the Bible read. She felt fortunate to be able to travel and live in many parts of the world and collected cookbooks from nearly everywhere she went.
Family visitation will be on Monday, June 6, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson's Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. There will be a private graveside memorial service where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
