Mr. Nelson had lived all his life in the Cadillac area. He was the owner/operator of a logging company and retired at the age of 79. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac and enjoyed watching birds, collecting field stones of all sizes and his work.
On October 8, 1949 in Cadillac he married the former Elsie L. Armstead and she survives him along with children: Randal (Diane) Nelson, Ann Straathof and Craig Nelson (Den Maury) all of Cadillac and Keith (Jolynn) Nelson of Lansing; eight grandchildren: Tammy (Ken) Sulik, Stephanie (Bret) Eckert, Carol Nelson and Ben Blank, Amy (Brent) Anderson, Jennifer (Sean) Reddick, Katie (Jesse) Green, Johnnie (Jeff) Neahr and Avery Nelson; five great-grandchildren; four step great- grandchildren, and a sister, Alice Egelus of Cadillac.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Norm and Eric Nelson and two sisters, Jennie Symanski and Alma Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Elder Robert Keeler and Reverend Scott Torkko officiating. Visitation will be Monday (today) from 2 to 4 and 6 tp 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hobart Cemetery, Clam Lake Twp., Wexford County, Michigan.
