DEATH CLAIMS MRS. WHITMIRE
( By Miss Jessie Land )
Our entire city was shocked when the news was spread that Mrs. J.H. Whitmire had died at her home in North Whitney, Thursday night, Aug. 30, 1934, at 9 o'clock. Mrs. Whitmire had only been confined to her home some two or three weeks.
Mrs. Ozelle (Randle) Whitmire was born at Rockdale, Texas. When a young girl she accepted Christ as her Savior, uniting with the Baptist Church and at the time of her death held membership in the First Baptist Church in Whitney.
Some 36 years ago she was married to T.E. Blackmore at Rockdale. She leaves two sons by this marriage, T.E. Blackmore, of San Diego, Cal. and Randle Blackmore of Boston, Mass.
About 28 years ago she was united in Marriage to Mr. J.H. Whitmire, who, with their three children, James M., Mrs. T.L. Scott and Woodrow, is left to mourn her going away. She also leaves seven grandchildren, one brother, Forest Randle, Cameron, two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Little, Big Spring, and Mrs. J.P. Collier, Adrian, Texas, besides a great host of friends who sorrow at her passing.
Mrs. Whitmire, with her companion and children, moved to Whitney some 20 years ago.
Funeral Services were held at the First Baptist Church Friday at 4 o'clock by her former pastor, Rev. V.M. Cloyd of Waco, assisted by Revs. F.E. Weller and R.E. Briggs. The large crowd and beautiful floral offerings bore testimony of the esteem in which the deceased and her family were held.
After the services at the church the funeral cortege went to DeGraffenreid Cemetery where the body was laid to rest to await the Resurrection morn.
Claude Scruggs was in charge of arrangements.
Those from out of town attending the funeral services were Miss Jeanette Morgan and Chas. Whitmire, Waco: Mrs. Albert Hensley and children, Misses Iva lee and Opal Sanders, Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd Lester, Iredell; Mr. And Mrs. Forest Randle, Mrs. Fred McLearon, Cameron; Bill Randle, Rockdale, Mrs. L.W. Harris, Hillsboro; Mrs. Bruce Moorman and Miss Mable Moorman, Coon Creek, Mr. And Mrs. Woodrow Whitmire, Ft. Worth.
The Messenger joins with the many friends in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved.
