Maurice Robert Coombs, 87, of Lancaster died Thursday, December 28, 2006. He was a 1941 graduate of the University of California in Berkley with a degree in international relations. He was widower of Betty Treherne Coombs and a former active member of Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax. A retired U. S. Army Colonel, he served in Brisbane, Australia during World War II where he met his wife of 61 years. Mr. Coombs was a retired Research Analyst with the U. S. Army Security Agency at Arlington Hall, Va.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Dianne R. Coombs and Lee Hendrix of Edwards, Colo.; a son and daughter-in-law, David B. and Barbara Coombs of Bedford, Mass.; four grandchildren, Sarah, Jason and Alexander Coombs and Mitchell Hendrix; two brothers, Stanley Coombs of Pismo Beach, Cal. and Cecil Coombs of Bakersfield, Cal. Mr. Coombs was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Coombs.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 31 at Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock with The Rev. David May officiating. Interment was in Historic Christ Church Burying Ground, Irvington.
