Alvin served his country in World War II in Company G, 317th Infantry Regiment, Third Army under General George Patton. He was injured in the Battle of the Bulge by shrapnel.
Alvin was employed by Anniston Electric Company as a repairman and then as the service manager for many years.
In 1974, he was appointed as Calhoun County's License Commissioner by Governor George Wallace and served his community in this capacity until 1994. He was a past president of the Association of Alabama Tax Administration.
Alvin was a devout Christian and served in numerous capacities in his church, Parker Memorial Baptist Church. He was also active in the Kiwanis Club of Anniston and was instrumental in beginning the Back-to-School shopping program for children.
