Scheduled Thursday
Services for J.W. Bailey, 75, Tyler, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home chapel, Tyler, with J.C. Tate officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in New Harmony Cemetery.
Mr. Bailey died Aug. 11 at his residence.
He was born June 12, 1928, in Heiberger, Ala., to the late Lee Crawford and Vera Kennedy Bailey. He was station in Fort Worth, Texas, Guam, Hawaii, California, New Mexico and Florida before to Tyler 36 years ago. He retired from the Air Force and 28 years total service, having been in the Army Air Corps and Navy prior to joining the Air Force.
He served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He later worked in maintenance at Doctor's Memorial Hospital in Tyler and was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Iva Nell Rumbo Bailey in 1999, and brother, Chester Bailey.
Survivors include sons James Wesley Dell Bailey, Washington, Ernest Lee Bailey and wife Mary, Emory; daughters, Corliss Manning and husband David, Dallas, and Lou Ann Gilley and husband Larry Don, Longview; brothers, Donald Bailey, Lindale, and Dwight Bailey, Tyler, sisters, Francis Frazier and Fannie Mitchell, and husband Truman, all of Tyler, Vera Jo Richards, and husband David, Chandler, and Peggy Compagna, and husband Ponti, Dallas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers are David Manning, Larry Don Gilley, Thomas Bailey, David Richards, Truman Mitchell and Ponti Compagna.
Family will receive friends 6-8p.m. Wednesday at the funerial home.
