Russie J. Hyre
Russie J. Hyre, 90, a resident of Elkins and a patient in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 3, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 2, 1911, in Pendleton County, a daughter of the late Mayberry and Verna C. May Strawder.
On Sept. 1, 1934, she was married to Clifford Hyre, a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
Also surviving are one daughter, Betty J. Schoonover, Elkins Regional Convalescent Center; one grandson, Robert J. Schoonover of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Georgie Strawder, Riverton; and one great-grandson, Shawn Schoonover of Elkins.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Raymond and Mason Strawder.
Mrs. Hyre was employed in housekeeping at the Tygart Hotel, Elkins Motor Lodge and Davis & Elkins College prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Elkins Church of the Brethren.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Walter H. Blough officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens.
