He came with his parents to IN in 1834.
Thomas maintained a farm in Franklin Twp, where he died in 1876.
The Will of Thomas J. Phipps (also written Phillips), will record 3, page 71, Owen County Recorder's Office. Will dated Nov. 3, 1876. Know all men by these present that I Thomas J. Phipps of Owen County and State of Indiana being in ill health but of sound and _ _ _ memory do make this my last will and testament hereby revolking all former wills by me made at any time heretofore.
And as to my worldly estate and all of the property real, personal or _ or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease O devise bequeth and dispose therof in the following to wit.
First my will is that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall by my Excutrix herein after named be paid out of my estate soon after my decease as shall by her be found convenient.
Item no. 1. I give and devise and bequeth to my beloved wife Louvisa Phipps lot No. twenty (20) situated in the town of Freedom Owen County and State Indiana with full authority and power to sell and convey the same in any way or manner that she may deem just and proper.
Item No. 2 I also give devise and bequethto my said wife all the remainder of my estate real personal or _ to have and to hold the same during her natural life or so long as she remains my widow, but in case she should marry again then my will is that two thirds of my said estate shall go on date of marriage to my children named as follows, to wit, John P Phipps, Nancy A Phipps, Marry E Phipps, Thomas M Phipps, Florence J. Phipps, Edger W. Phipps, and Wilbur (or is it Miller??) Phipps.
Item No. 3 and lastly I do nominate and appoint my said wife to be the Exectrix of this my last will and testament, ........ set my hand and seal this the third day of November in the year 1876...Thomas J Phipps.
