Gilbert P. Laurent, age 86, formerly of Chaska, died on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Friendship Manor Health Center, Shakopee. Gilbert was born on May 14, 1924, in Hamel, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Magdalena (Klaers) Laurent. He married Margaret (Candy) Gormley on April 30, 1960 in St. Paul. He was a retired farmer and worked for Grain Belt Brewery as a bottler. Gilbert was a member of the James F. Campbell Council #1685 Knights of Columbus of Shakopee. Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Candy); children, Steve (Martha), David and his special friend Michelle; Carol Laurent and her special friend, Wayne Ingram; Paul (Brenda), Jerry (Lisa);
16 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Viola Galski, Margie (Richard) Jacobs, Joan (Ron) Weidenbach; 5 brothers, Ray, Don, Harold, Bob and Tony (Avis). He was preceded in death by his son, Bill; parents and sisters, Lorraine Laurent and Millie VanBusekom.
