Hazel Charlice Alice Cress Overbey Martin

Hazel Charlice Alice Cress was the 5th of 6 children born to Fielden L. Cress and Mary Maude Parrott. Her siblings were Frances, Delsie, Edith, Evelyn and Fielden. Hazel was born on January 15, 1926 in Holton, Jackson County, Kansas. She attended and graduated from Holton High School. On February 16, 1946, Hazel married her first husband Cecil W. Overbey from Lyles, Tennessee, in Topeka Kansas. They met at a USO dance in Topeka. The couple then settled into married life in Kansas City, Missouri. They had 3 daughters, their first daughter MaryLinda Overbey died at 3 months old. Then Alice Marie was born and another daughter Terry Ann. Hazel worked as an Electrical Engineering Lab Technician for Wilcox Electric Company for 20 years before her health forced her to retire in 1978. In 1976 Hazel married her second husband Glenn L. Martin. Glenn and Hazel spent as much time as possible fishing and hunting, traveling weekends to the Lake of the Ozarks thru the spring, summer and fall. Deer hunting was a yearly event that they looked forward to all year. Hazel had 8 Grandchildren at the time of her death. She also had 3 Step-sons Raymond Martin, Sam L. Martin, and John T. Martin.
