Edward J. Riffle, a well-known Thurmont garage operator for 17 years, died late Friday night aged 72 years and 2 months. Prior to becoming a garage operator he had been employed for about 12 years as a carpenter for the Western Maryland Railway. He was a member of the Elias Lutheran Church, Emmitsburg and a member of the Knights of Pythias of Thurmont. He was born in Emmitsburg district the son of the late George and Margaret Riffle and is survived by his widow who before her marriage was Miss Emma Linn; two son, George E. Emmitsburg; Albert J., Thurmont; one sister, Miss Lottie M. Riffle, Thurmont; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Florence Slagle, McSherrystown, Pa.; Mrs. Helen Bentzelt, Hanover, Pa.; and one brother, Charles Riffle, Gettysburg, also survive.
