Cary Douglas, 30, Remington, Fatally Injured
A father of five young children was fatally injured here Saturday afternoon when he was crushed beneath a tractor that fell from a loading dock.
Cary Douglas, 30, died at St. Elizabeth hospital, Lafayette, about 6:10 p.m. Saturday of injuries received a few hours earlier.
Douglas, a part-time employee of the V-C Chemical company, was driving a front-end loader tractor on a loading dock and apparently drove too close to the edge of the dock. The tractor slipped off the dock, flipping over and pinning Douglas beneath it.
Douglas was a federal clerk (first sergeant) at the National Guard armory here and worked in off hours for the chemical firm.
He was a native of Remington and in 1948 married Thelma Walton. He was a member of the Remington Presbyterian church.
Surviving besides the widow are five children, Donald, Virginia, Robert, Sandra and Raymond, all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Douglas of Remington; and a brother, George, also of Remington.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Remington Presbyterian church with Rev. Cecil Atkinson officiating. Full military honors were conferred at the grave in Remington cemetery.
