Thomas M. Hemming Obituary

Thomas M. Hemming, 84, Ammon, died Sept. 7, 1996 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of complications of diabetes.

He was born Sept. 2, 1912 at Salem, the son of Alfred John and Adelgunda Grover Hemming. He grew up in the Rexburg area and attended Washington School, Madison county High School.

He married Mary J. Christenson, Feb. 1, 1933 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple and she preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1960.

He married Helen V. Christensen, June 25, 1983 at Idaho Falls. He moved to Blackfoot in 1938 and worked for Boyle Furniture. He later worked as a car salesman for Blackfoot Motors.

They moved to Ogden, Utah and worked for Boyle's there, also before moving to Idaho Falls about 18 years ago. He worked here at Ace Hardware until his retirement. He served on the Blackfoot City Council for eight years.

An active member of the LDS Church he served as Bishop of the Blackfoot LDS Third Ward, Sunday School Superintendent, and ward clerk. He also served as stake clerk. He and Helen filled an LDS Mission to Nauvoo, Ill, from 1986 to 1987. He enjoyed golf, fishing, basketball and softball.

Survivors include his wife, Helen V. Hemming, Ammon, two sons: Robert (Bob) and Carol Hemming, Idaho Falls; and Garth and Janis Hemming, Logan, Utah; one daughter, Geraldine and Floyd Sucher, Orem Utah; two brothers: Grover Hemming, Rexburg; and Leland Hemming, San Diego, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary, five brothers and his parents.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Idaho Falls LDS Seventh Ward Chapel, 955 Memorial Drive, with Bishop David Neitzel officiating.

The family will visit with friends on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, Idaho Falls.
