Alvin R. Mauldin, Sr. of Austin, Texas was born January 26, 1906 at Italy, Texas in Ellis County, the son of W.Z. and Mary Mauldin, who gave the land on which the Derr’s Chapel Methodist Church was built near Italy. He died December 15, 1982 after a lengthy illness. Even as a child he always said he was going to be a preacher and just after graduating from Italy High School in 1925, as valedictorian of the class, he was licensed to preach at Waxahachie in the Central Texas Conference. He attended Meridian Jr. College, the Southwestern University, where he graduated with a B.A. degree in Religion in 1929, the attended Perkins School of Theology at S.M.U. Because of ill health, he retired in 1965, after thirty-five years in the ministry. He served nineteen years in the San Angelo District. He also served in the Kerrville and Austin Districts. In the early sixties he was pastor of the Trinity Church in Austin where his funeral was held December 17, 1982, with burial in the Capital Memorial Park, with Masonic Lodge Rites at the graveside.

On August 26, 1930, he was married to Novelle Turner, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. O.B. Turner of the Central Texas Conference. They observed their 50th Wedding Anniversary August 24, 1980.

Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Dr. A.R. Mauldin, Jr. of San Marcos, Donald Mauldin of San Angelo, a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Rackley, of Georgetown, grandchildren, Mrs. Sylvia Mauldin McMinn, Mrs. Kimberly Mauldin Heinrich, Michael Mauldin, Debbie Mauldin Kinney, Darron Mauldin, Jason Rackley and Babbette Rackley Wentrcek. Also five brothers and seven sisters.
