He came with his parents to Lee County in 1857 at the age of eleven years, where he resided, with the exception of three years in Kansas, until about thirty years ago when he moved to the farm where he died.
He was married to Mary Ann Wright in 1871. To this union was born ten children. One daughter, Maude F. Berryhill preceding him in death.
Those left to mourn their loss - his wife and the following children: Albert Charles Mogel, Keosauqua; Mrs. W.T. Wilmeth, Salem; Mrs. R.V. Graves, Fullerton, California; Mrs. Rowland Davidson, Donnellson; Mrs. Roy Halliwill, La Crew; Mrs. Earl Stringer, Salem; Mrs. Frank Moyle, Mt. Pleasant; Melvina and Earl at home. One brother, Hezekiah of Mt. Pleasant and eleven grandchildren survive, besides other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the undertaker parlors in Hillsboro Monday, January 23 at 10 o'clock a.m. The singers were Craig Graves, Mrs. Anne Watts, Mrs. Belle Benn and Walter Harlan.
Burial was in Salem South Cemetery, the pall bearers were Russell Nicholson, Wayne Ross, Carl Watts, Jesse Benn, Earl Clawson, and Ed Weaver.
