Mrs. Lawson was born August 20, 1913 to Will and Blanche Joyce. She married Oliver Cromwell Lawson on April 15, 1929.
She was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She was a member of Asbury Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, serving as both a deacon and an elder. She was very active in her community and assisted with many charity events. She was an excellent cook, avid reader, and loved to quilt and crochet.
She is survived by six children and their spouses, Joyce Collins, of Pilot Mountain, Scotty and Peggy Lawson, of Pilot Mountain, Marilyn and Dean Green, of Greensboro, Sue and Ken Mitchell, of Collinstown, Ivan and Rachel Lawson, of McLeansville, and Diane and John Walker, of Westfield; two daughters-in-law, Hucie Lawson, of Mount Airy, and Lynn Lawson, of Pfafftown, two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Wayne and Frankie Joyce, of Westfield, James Oliver and Betty Joyce, of Johnson City, TN, Pauline Joyce, of King, and Inez Joyce, of Lumberton, twenty two grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a special friend of the family, Marsha Martin.
The family would also like to give special thanks to her Special Angels who gave such loving care, Anna Lee Nunn Kidd, Barbara Collins, and Janie Joyce.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by three sons, William Max Lawson, Roger Glen Lawson, and Lee Kent Lawson, one daughter, Mary Jo Collins, one grandson, Anthony Lawson, and two brothers Lloyd Joyce and Reid Joyce.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Asbury Presbyterian Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Terry Collins, Rev. Rickey Rogers and Rev. Allen Morrison, with burial following at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 30, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Asbury Presbyterian Church. The family will also receive friends immediately after the service at the Asbury Presbyterian Fellowship Building, and at other times in the home, Lawson Lane, Asbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Asbury Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 105, Westfield, NC 27053 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
