HERKIMER Harold I. Ackley, 94, died on December 16, 2008 at the Folts Homes, where he had resided for the past three years. A native of the Town of Norway, Harold was born on Dairy Hill on April 29, 1914 a son of the late Harvey and Grace (Pardee) Ackley. He received his education at the Dairy Hill country school and worked on the family farm from an early age. Harold was first married to the former Freda Ward in 1936. In 1954, he married Eugenia Seibert and moved to Dolgeville, where he resided until entering the Folts Homes in 2005. Mr. Ackleys primary occupation was a truck driver, having worked for various trucking firms. Eugenia preceded him in death in 1996. Harold was of the Protestant faith. Survivors include one son, David Ackley of Herkimer; one sister, Evelyn Chmielewski of Salisbury Center; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Evelyn Smith in 1992; his sister, Edith Humphrey in 2003; and by two brothers, Arthur Ackley in 1980 and Ray Ackley in 2008. A graveside service will be held at Salisbury Rural Cemetery in the spring. There are no public calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport.
